An Introduction to MED OSMoSIS

MED OSMoSIS is a strategic project focusing on the development of modules for Maritime Surveillance activities to enhance maritime situational awareness in the Mediterranean. It aims to ease information exchanges that will support the further development of a regional/local smart plug-in capability supporting interoperable and transnational systems.

Its expected results include innovative solutions, capitalization on the project’s pilot studies and a list of platforms for Maritime Surveillance.

The project brings together 10 partners from 8 coastal states of the Mediterranean: Greece – project leader, Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.

It gathers public scientific institutions and national authorities in charge of navigation safety and maritime surveillance.

Project Partner 1 – The Abruzzo Region (Italy)
Project Partner 2 – CSIC - The Institute of Marine Sciences (Spain)
Project Partner 3 – National Institute of Biology (Slovenia)
Project Partner 4 – Valenciaport Foundation (Spain)
Project Partner 5 – Directorate-General Maritime Authority (Portugal)
Project Partner 7 – Intermodal Transport Cluster (Croatia)
Project Partner 8 – Plovput LLC (Croatia)
Project Partner 9 – Ministry of Capital Investments (Montenegro)

The main body of work in the MED OSMoSIS project can be divided/ analyzed in four interconnected work packages - Studying, Testing, Transferring and Capitalisation.

One of the key activities of our project are the Pilot studies which will be implemented across a large portion of the Mediterranean basin, and their proposed modules and applications cover a number of possible maritime surveillance aspects.

The hands on application of the Innovative solutions through the proposed pilot studies will enhance the cooperation between the project partners and reveal the possible dynamic and better results that such cooperation can contribute to maritime surveillance and relevant information exchanges.
